Research has shown that the tastiest of fresh water fish, trout, is also rich in vitamins, iodine and phosphorous. Trout also has a high protein value compared to other edible fresh water fish.

The number of wild trout found in the Uzungöl Environmental Protection Area (EPA) is decreasing.

Local people celebrated with folk music and dancing, as 7 thousand hatchlings were released into the Storm River in Storm valley near Çamlıhemşin in Rize province. 

Ramazan Sönmez, the Chair of the Çameli Trout Producers' Association, says that Çameli is now a disaster area “in which almost 9 million fish have perished”.

Sönmez told the Anatolian News Agency correspondent that heavy rain had ruined his trout farms.

According to Assistant Professor Kocabaş, ''Pollution, over-fishing and other more exotic varieties of trout introduced from trout farms, have led to this decrease in the population of trout in the Uzungöl EPA.

Bulut explains that after years of work finally a project which comprises the best of practise with the production of organic water products, has come to Rize: “I started this project with the aim of establishing organic fish farming in Rize to meet the demand for such organic fish. My project has 5 separate strands.
